If you are worried about someone else
You can call or text 988 about another person, and a counselor will help you work out what to do next. If you think your child, partner, or friend may be thinking about suicide:
- Ask them directly. Research shows that asking does not put the idea in someone’s head.
- Listen without judging, and stay with them or make sure someone else can.
- Put distance between them and anything they could use to hurt themselves.
- Help them connect. Call or text 988 together.
- Check in again in the days after.
