Your thumbs have logged more hours of focused, repetitive motion this year than possibly any other part of your body, and you have never once thanked them or thought about them at all. They just go, tapping out texts and scrolling feeds while the rest of you is somewhere else.
Next time you pick up your phone, pause before you start typing. Actually feel your thumb hover over the glass. Notice the small motion, the slight pressure, the tiny click of each letter landing. Type one sentence slower than you need to.
It sounds absurd to meditate on your own thumbs. It is a little absurd. It’s also a free, always-available reminder that even your most mindless habits are still, technically, things happening to your actual body in real time.
