You cross a dozen thresholds a day — the front door, the office, the bathroom, the car — and every single one happens to you without happening to you. One moment you’re in the hallway, the next you’re at your desk, and the doorway itself is a blank you stepped through on the way to somewhere else.
Pick one doorway today and actually walk through it. Pause for a half-second on the threshold. Notice the change in light, in temperature, in sound, as you move from one room to the next. You are, quite literally, becoming a different version of your day.
Some cultures used to treat doorways as small sacred moments worth a pause or a touch. You don’t need the ritual to borrow the idea: the threshold is real, even if you usually walk straight through it without noticing it was ever there.
